Prototype games series and where the third part?
On boring days, quarantine was burning, and the exam loomed outside the window, a sore idea crept into my head to write a blog on Stopgame.So that you understand – I rarely go to the Stopgame website, but there can be no question of blogs! All the experience of writing any articles I end in the composition of the OGE. But the grain of hard work has already been sown in my mind. Not that I started this immediately and immediately … I broke 2 days. But if you read this, then I was able to overcome fear, laziness and still decided to go beyond the records in the Word File.
Forced me to leave the comfort zone one of my beloved, if not the most beloved, a series of Prototype games. For some time I was literally outraged, having passed the second part for the hundredth time, the injustice of the universe. Like such a chic series of games that conquered so many hearts, was able to go into oblivion? I will discuss this particular, as well as the possibility of the release of the third part.

Radical Entertainment, and this is the name of the company that developed this game, was founded, according to Wikipedia, in 1991, in the year of the collapse of the USSR, the beginning of the Civilization series and the birth of ID Software. The Radical Entertainment was founded in Canada Rory Armes, Dave Davis and Yan Vilkinson. In those days, the company was engaged in porting games to the NES prefix unknown to me (and before you throw me a well -known substance, I will say that I was born after 2000, and I am far from a game industry in early childhood). Then more complete, but still inconspicuous games went. The company was engaged in games based on existing franchises, such as the Terminator, Mario, etc. And only in 2003 the company produces something that costs the attention of the average modern gamer. The Simpsons: Hit & Run has become a fantasy on the topic of GTA. Subsequently, they will release the literal clone of the same GTA – Scarface: The World Is Yours. The game turned out to be very good. If you are not scared by obsolete graphics, you can play, the product deserves.
However, this game still remained based on, and Radical Entertainment did not work out his franchises. All of them remain faded and do not deserve the attention of modern gamers.
In 2005, Radical approached the Prototype concept as much as possible and release Hulk Ultimate Destruption. All similarities are evident: open peace, superpowers and complete freedom of action. The game came out good. Both critics and gamers met her heat. In the future, the company’s employees themselves admit that by creating Prototype, they were based on Hulk experience, and that they were going to bring the idea just in Prototype.
As we see, Radical has made products not of the highest quality all my life, but deserving of attention. They were just good, and they are not ashamed to play to this day. But all these games are not the result of the work of the scriptwriters of the team, but just a fantasy on the topic. Radical literally did not have his own face, and this is not unimportant. And here is 2009 ..
On E3 2009, we first saw the trailer Prototype. Of course, the game surfaced before, but the proper publicity found only on E3. Its publisher was Activision, well -known from the series Call of Duty. In the same 2009, the game saw the light.
You can’t talk about Prototype, without mentioning its competition with the series of games infamous. Infamous was also released in 2009 and was an exclusive for PS3. The games were insanely similar to their mechanics. In both, the open world, both of the main topic were superpowers. More about infamous, I can’t say.To. I am a boyar. Plus in those years, I just taught the alphabet and my first words of the mat in the first grade, so I have not heard of any PS and Xbox. I had my favorite PC, who barely pulled Fallout 3 and I was enough for me.
When the game came out critics, they put them 7-8 points, and the players began to eagerly tear the meat of ordinary passers-by. Among them I will find myself only after 5 years, when I will get the mind to go to torrents.
What can I say? The game came out wonderful. Blood, guts! All according to the covenants of docks 2.The feeling of invincible made it possible to relax after difficult training days, and an amazing idea with biological abilities simply torn my head! I rejoiced like a child, who I, in fact, was, and, so far, I remain.
Those players who were at that time at a conscious age noted that the game, although they collected excellent reviews, but had a large number of shortcomings. Along with pluses, such as the freshness of ideas, convenient management, beauty of special effects and, of course, meat, there were rather significant disadvantages: the monotony of tasks, a cardboard city, incorrectly increasing complexity, problems in the plot and the general boredon of what is happening.
I specifically did not say anything about the plot and gameplay so that those who did not pass the game receive complete sensations and drives of the process.
The game was broken into the top of the best -selling games, and financial success was ensured. Then it became clear to be a sequel.
Events preceding Prototype 2.
The development of the second part has quite a few puzzles. There were rumors that Radical created 2 more games based on popular franchises, but they all closed. At the same time, while the developers were developing either one or three games, one of which was exactly the second part of Prototype, the first signs were that not everything was in order in the studio. Mass dismissals testified to the poor financial situation of the company, but all the same, the first teaser was shown in 2010, and in 2011 the first gameplay.
Now, depending from the future, we can say exactly how much developers planned, and how little they were able to realize. Even in the same Pre-Alpha gameplay, we see the chips that have not entered the game, but how much is still behind the scenes ..
Prototype 2
Despite all the problems, the new part came out. The developers took into account all the shortcomings of the past part and tried to fix them in the sequel. This led to a significant jump in the game in the game, more perfect technical performance and, which is important, the game has gained style. From soap graphics and a cardboard city, with no less cardboard passers -by, the game was able to evolve into a more living world. On the street, passers -by did not just go, but talked, sat on benches, cried in cages, etc.p. The visual component of the city has grown. The buildings now were not just rectangles with windows growing from the ground, but full -fledged architectural buildings. The monsters finally acquired a good design, especially it is felt in comparison with the first part where the monsters looked like, sorry for the comparison turned out to the wrong side Anus. The plot acquired a stylized feed. The picture in KAT scenes has acquired black and white stylization with the release of some colors, such as red and blue. And if you generalize the game grew up in the narrative and in the animal of the world by five goals.
Problems begin when we look at the elements of the game in more detail. First of all I want to touch on the subject of the plot. In order not to spoil, I will say ghostly formulations, trying to make those who play understand, and those who did not play, on the contrary, had no idea what I had about.
In the second part, the developers decided to change the protagonist. Now they have become a combat black man. And apparently due to the stereotypes about the warriors, he was made incredibly stupid. During the whole game, he will enrage the player with his stupid and stereotype. Because of this, I absolutely do not want to worry about him, albeit a game, from time to time, tries to force us and, surprisingly, sometimes successfully. But this does not save him, and the player wants to empathize with the main villain, even he does not give out any drama.
And since we began to talk about the heads of the bastard, one cannot but dug him. The completely incomprehensible motivation in the spirit of “I will capture the whole world” makes the brain concussion from faces. But his charisma, as well as a connection with the previous part, does not say that he is bad. On the contrary, against the background of the protagonist, he looks quite worthy.
Twisters cause questions. The main twist, when we understand who the villain does not make sense. After all, all the players who played in the last part know everything long before its disclosure, and the plot holes, which are not explained in any way in the first and in the second part, make them doubt the competence of the main screenwriter. However, in fairness, it is worth noting that, despite all these flaws, it is quite interesting to follow the plot.
In comparison with the plot, gameplay problems do not seem so terrible anymore. In the new part, the hero acquired both a heap of new abilities, and lost the old. But globally gameplay remained the same. And there is a problem in this. The game has not moved forward in this regard in any way, and some of the animations generally directly crossed from the last part. And yet it should be noted that playing has become more pleasant. Management has become even more convenient.
Problems with the logic of the game are also gone. In the first part of the NPC, they could walk in the parks only through the street from hostilities. This problem was solved by dividing the city into zones. Global quarantine is in the yellow zone, but people still walk along the streets (nothing reminds of anything?), in green, everything is quiet and smooth, and in red it is a fierce hell in the style of doom.
And yet, the game became quite worthy of the sequel, collecting the same grades that the first part collected.
The financially new part went quite well and even became the best -selling game of the month, but this did not save the studio from death ..
Death Radical Entertainment
Literally after the release of the game, the studio was closed. Activision said that the game did not find an audience. The studio was disbanded, and the rights to the games switched Activision.
So it is not clear what Radical closed from. Either financial problems before the release of the second part were too critical, or the financial success of the second part was not as rainbow as it seemed. And generally it doesn’t matter what caused the closure, the fact-studio itself went bankrupt. It is a pity that the diamond, which was supposed to act as the fact that it would pull the studio from the category of games of the class, turned out to be their death. And no matter how the PROTOTYPE series games are scolded, they will remain the brightest stars in such a small genre as a “superhero simulator”.
Prototype 3
But still the death of the series is too early. After all, the rights to it are still stored on the Activision shelf, and at any moment she can get them and make a new game. There are still rumors in different sources that the third part is in development. There were even rumors that the third part was done 3 times, but all the time restarted the development. But for the most part, all these rumors proven fakes, and realistic rumors over the years have not been confirmed in any way.
Last year, Activision stated that they have 10 games in the development. Three of them are new parts of the Call of Duty series, another fantasy on the topic of Destiny, and the rest, at least for me, are unknown. Maybe among the endless games of services and new parts that are already pretty fallen, the episodes are the very desired new part of the series about biological mutants. But reliable rumors about this did not pop up, so hoping for an imminent announcement is pointless. After all, the hope of continuation has its franchises with Activision (in the separation of Blizzard) and the company has no right to scatter them. And yet fans should come to terms in advance with the fact that the new part of the series will not work. I have already come to terms. But I will be glad to make mistakes in my forecasts.
